Welcome to Translation Certification!

The translation certification will allow you to show your language ability and attention to detail. You can only obtain a max of 5 different Translation Guidance certifications. If you think you can translate in more than 5 different language combinations, pick the 5 combinations you speak better/are better at.

For each question you will see a sentence in the source language and underneath an initial translation has been provided. But, this initial translation will contain one absolute/objective error that can be fixed with one edit.

Click ‘resume certification process’ to start. This will take you to our guidance module which explains how to complete the test. Please review the module carefully. After the module you will see the translation certification test comprising of 20 questions.

Lesson 1 of 3

The translation certification will allow you to show your language ability and attention to detail.

For each question you will see a sentence in the source language and underneath an initial translation has been provided. But, this initial translation will contain ONE absolute/objective error 

The final box, called proposed translation, is where you will put what the correct translation should be. The box will be populated with the initial translation which will make it quicker for you to correct and limit the amount of typing you need to do as any stray typing such as an extra space or period may see the system mark your answer incorrectly.

You are required to only correct the ONE absolute/objective error . The error may be grammar, an omission, mistranslation or a typo etc.

You should not change the tone, style or fluency of the text for the purpose of this text otherwise the system will make your answers as incorrect.

Let's look at some examples and why the candidate has been marked correct or incorrect.

Even if you do not speak the languages used in the examples, by reading the comments you will understand the reasoning behind the answers and be able to steer away from making similar mistakes yourself!

Here there is a typo as "abitat" should be spelled "habitat" with h.

Here there is a mistranslation. Subject in source is singular (I went) and translation is plural (We went).

Translating French into English

Here the candidate has corrected the translation incorrectly!

Here there Is a grammar error. The verb "New Zealanders is so eager" is in the singular form, but it should be plural (New Zealanders are so eager), but the candidate also changed "burgers" into "hamburgers". Remember, you should only correct ONE absolute/objective error and not change the tone or style of the translation.

Translating  English into Spanish

Here the candidate has corrected the translation incorrectly!

Here there is a mistranslation. "Roma" should be "Bali", but the candidate also changed "cierto" with "verdad". Remember, you should correct the one objective mistake and not change the tone or style of the translation.
